History 1st year of Motherhouse

Motherhouse bags in Japan

On March 9th 2006, Yamaguchi registered Motherhouse co. ltd. in Japan.
In her room, surrounded by the bags she produced, feeling the soul coming through them, she was making a business plan, with both concern and hopes in her mind.

She has been trying through trial and error; she opened a website, told her friends about the company, and knocked on corporate doors. At the first department store she went, she experienced a positive response from a buyer. The sales were increasing steadily. Surrounded by bags around her bed, she spent many sleepless nights worrying about the company.

She worked hard everyday, day and night. All the 160 bags were sold out in the first two months.

Developing new products: Going back to Bangladesh

In May 2006, printing out all the e-mails from customers, translated into Bengali, she took a flight to Bangladesh. When she met the employees at the factory, they seemed to be surprised! They told her that they had not expected that she would come back. Listening from her that all bags were sold out and Japanese customers were very happy to have Motherhouse bags, the employees felt so happy and proud!
The employees expressed “you did a great job, madam!”

From the day she was back in Bangladesh, she started developing new products. To produce more unique and high-quality bags with meticulous design, she worked so hard night and day.
She, at this time, produced 650 bags.

To complete this job, she had confronted with so many hardships. It was a tough job, but she learned a lot from it. Throughout the production and sales, she realized that she lacked both skill and knowledge about bag making. When she returned to Tokyo, she went to a school to learn about bag making from bag craftsmen.

In October 2006, she had the first company event which was held to thank customers of Motherhouse. Meeting the customers for the first time, she felt strong gratitude toward them.
