CEO Eriko Yamaguchi

After working at an international organization in Washington DC, I went to Bangladesh, the poorest country in Asia.
I stayed there for two years and experienced the dark realities of a developing country.

I saw serious social and political turmoil, such as strikes and demonstrations
Donations and foreign aid were not reaching the people in need because of the serious corruption in the country.
What is worse, such assistance caused the people
to lose their national pride and independence. I recognized that aid was not effective in changing these realities.

I started looking for a more sustainable and effective way of helping underprivileged people. And I found a way.
My approach was to create high-quality products in developing countries
and to sell them to consumers in developed countries.
This is the business of Motherhouse
- to find and maximize hidden potentials in developing countries.

I strongly believe that these bags with labels of "made in Bangladesh"
will be carried in cultured cities like Tokyo, Milan, Paris and New York.
When this vision is realized, in the near future I believe,
the world will be changed.
